Middle-Earth Gets a Glow-Up in the First Trailer for ‘The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power’

Front and center in the first trailer for Rings of Power? Morfydd Clark, who earned a BAFTA Rising Star nomination for her performance in 2019 Saint Maud, and will appear as Galadriel, played by Cate Blanchett in the Noughties blockbuster films. Her mission in the clip: convince Elrond (Robert Aramayo) that Sauron’s evil remains a threat, especially through forging 20 rings that will damage the hearts of elves, men, and dwarves. “You didn’t see what I saw.” Perhaps safe from Sauron’s temptation? The hardy Harfoots, ancestors of the Hobbits, seen in the video, are the ones who share the loyalty of Frodo and his co-workers (and big, hairy paws).

While the first trailer for the series — which aired during this year’s Super Bowl — seems to rely heavily on CGI, the full trailer shows how Amazon Prime has used its estimated billion-dollar budget. credits for the series, including recreating some of Tolkien’s most famous civilizations. Diehard JRR fans will notice glimpses of the aforementioned Númenor, the home island of Aragorn’s ancestors; the Rivendell-esque cities of Lindon and Eregion; and Khazad-dûm, the underground dwarven kingdom, in its heyday.
