“I feel like my personal style is a pretty good mix of sporty and feminine, and I think this collection reflects that,” Osaka tells us. There is a mermaid dress with tiered fabric and ruffles, high and low hem for one side short and the other long. A denim two-piece, a cropped and puffy bomber jacket and an oversized painter’s jacket with drop shoulders and patch pockets bring more drama to the lineup. “I wanted to include some wearable for everyone, so we designed the Naomi ’93 Jean and Artist Coat for that reason,” she added. fish and halter tops create a fluid and feminine feel, and the bomber jacket is a cool sports piece to round it all off.”
Osaka’s favorite artist coat in the collection. “It was actually the first product I designed and we did a model earlier in the year, which I wore nonstop,” she says. “I’ve styled it a million different ways, but I mostly wear it with a t-shirt, bucket hat, and sandals for a casual daytime look.”
You can also see a hint of Osaka’s broader empire in the process. Printed on some of the pieces is her own kind of logo: called the “flower bear,” which is a small bear holding a flower along with her name. Osaka was inspired by different elements of her personality on and off the court, noting the elements of “aggressive as a bear, gentle as a flower”. Just last month, she also announced that she would be starting her own media company with LeBron James called “Hana Kuma”, which means “flower bear” in Japanese.
“We actually spent a lot of time working with a company to come up with my own personal logo, which we now call the flower bear,” she said. “We did a number of creative workshops where I shared a lot about my style and personality, which led to several iterations of the flower bear concept. For me now, this logo truly reflects who I am — fierce as a bear when I’m on the field, but soft and gentle as a flower when I leave the field. “
