Following the announcement that Douglas Henshall will make one final appearance as DI Jimmy Perez in the critically acclaimed BBC murder mystery drama series ShetlandThe BBC has released the first trailer for the new season.
Henshall debuted as DI Perez on BBC One in 2013 in the first TV series adaptation of crime writer Ann Cleeves’ award-winning novel. However, after nine years in the role, Henshall decided to leave Shetland to explore other acting opportunities.
Henshall said: “After series 5 of Shetland, David Kane and I decided we wanted to do two more series to complete the Jimmy Perez story. So series 6 and 7 were made together to give us time to summarize Perez’s story to a happy ending. It’s been one of the privileges of my career to play Jimmy Perez for almost ten years and to work with so many amazing people both on and off camera, and also spend a lot of time in Shetland. The Islands are part of our program and of Perez himself. I will miss him and this place. I wish the participants the best of luck with whatever comes next. “
Douglas Henshall’s final outing as DI Perez features in a thrilling new six-part series about Shetland which saw the team investigate the mysterious disappearance of a vulnerable young man. The investigation drags Perez into the secret past of a family new to the island, revealing an unimaginable threat to the community.
Shetland returns to BBC One in the UK on August 10. Shetland available to watch on BritBox or the Roku Channel in the US.
