Flooding in Scunthorpe space after torrential downpour l Janaseva News


Residents in Messingham had been horrified to search out their streets flooded yesterday after torrential rainfall hit components of the Scunthorpe space on Friday.

Humberside Fireplace & Rescue Service was known as to Westfield Drive, Messingham, at round 6.20pm.

The hearth service confirmed a complete of eight properties had flooded due to the opposed climate situations.

Residents had been ankle deep when making an attempt to stroll on the roads and automobiles struggled to move with the water ranges so excessive.

To clear the flooding, fireplace crews used a primary pump, a lightweight transportable pump and arduous suction to empty the surplus water from the world.

Humberside Fireplace and Rescue confirmed the incident has been logged to North Lincolnshire Council.

Fred Gill, an area resident, stated: “Massive thank you to the fire service. They were spot on as soon as they arrived when our street was absolutely done for. Westfield Drive is forever grateful.”

And residents are calling for extra motion to be taken by the council.

Fred added: “Questions need to be answered by North Lincolnshire and the respective councillors. This street was flooded years ago and we were assured it would never happen again.”

Deb Hughes, a resident affected by the flooding, remarked: “This happens every so often when a lot of rain falls in a very short period of time and yesterday a lot of the roads all flooded at once.

“I have never seen the other roads as bad as this before and our road did take a long time to clear as the drains could not work fast enough.”

Deb can be involved that the council has not performed sufficient to avert issues like this from going down.

She stated: “The drains in Messingham have not been cleaned or maintained for years.

“The council needs to be cleaning the drains regularly and stop developers putting pressure onto the existing drainage by building new houses in the area.”

North Lincolnshire Councillor Neil Poole responded by saying: “We are experiencing increasing heavy rainfall, which very quickly overloads the existing drainage infrastructure.

“Messingham Parish Council have been constant in objecting to new housing developments within the village on the grounds of poor drainage and localised flooding.

“All residential development should be stopped until the relevant utility companies, the local flood authority and NLC have surveyed both the surface and foul water drainage capacity.

“A program of works can then be applied to extend the effectivity and capability.”

But North Lincolnshire Council’s Local Flood Risk Management Strategy sets out how to reduce the risk of flooding from local sources in our communities and to contribute to effective emergency responses.

The LFRMS is a statutory requirement which states local authorities must prepare and publish a summary document which considers these risks of the Flood and Water Management Act 2010.

North Lincolnshire Council have been approached for a response to these claims after the flooding in Messingham yesterday.
