‘Find My Device’ tracking feature of Google to receive an upgrade very soon
If the reports are to be believed, Google is currently upgrading the ‘Find My Device’ tracking feature.
If the reports are to be believed, Google is currently upgrading the ‘Find My Device’ tracking feature. After the upgrade, users will be able to find their device without internet. This means the ‘Find My Device’ feature will be as good as Samsung’s SmartThings Search or My Search. The Google System Update for December 2022 changelog revealed this upgrade.
Update Find My Device
The ‘Find My Device’ feature is available on Android or Wear OS devices and can help track devices if they are connected to the Internet. Through the service, users can remotely lock their devices and even log out of their Google accounts. However, the only downside in the feature is that it doesn’t work if the device is offline. The device must be online to access the features listed above. This means that a thief/unwanted person can easily turn off the internet connection and then format it.
The update will allow the ‘Find My Device’ feature to detect Android and Wear OS devices without internet. The updated software will allow Android devices to talk to each other and find lost items. This feature can be end-to-end encrypted (same as Apple/Samsung service).
However, we don’t have any idea about the updated ‘Find My Device’ timeline. We expect this feature to roll out with the Android 14 update.
SmartThings Find by Samsung
Samsung’s SmartThings Search service is for Samsung Galaxy devices and it works even when the devices are offline. This service allows nearby Samsung devices to send the location of lost/stolen Samsung devices using the device’s Bluetooth. The tracking system has over 200 million search buttons that allow users to find their device.
Apple Find Me
Similar to Samsung, Apple’s Find My service is fully capable of finding lost Apple devices without internet. Find My service uses nearby Apple devices to find lost Apple devices.
