West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Tuesday spoke to the family of an elderly couple who were found murdered at their home in Kolkata’s Bhawanipore, and ensured a prompt investigation.
Mamata Banerjee spoke on the phone with the daughter of the murdered couple. The minister assures her that the murder case will be solved soon.
A businessman and his wife were found murdered at their residence in Harish Mukherjee Road, Bhawanipore area of south Kolkata on Monday. The dead have been identified as Ashok Shah (60 years old) and his wife Rashmita Shah (52 years old), both from a Gujarati business family based in Kolkata.
According to police, the deceased couple’s daughter was unable to reach them by phone since morning, then she arrived at their residence in the evening and found the main door open. When she entered the house, she found her parents’ bodies in a pool of blood.
Police discovered that all the cabinets in the house were open. Initial investigation results suggested that this was a case of attempted robbery that the couple fought back, then the bad guys killed them. Further investigation is underway.
