Jamie Clayton Ready to scare you silly this Halloween season. The 44-year-old actress will play the supernatural villain Pinhead in this remake of the 1987 horror classic Hellraiser, featuring a drop trailer on Wednesday (October 5). The role was first played by Doug Bradley In Clive BarkerBarker’s original film, based on Barker’s own novel Heart to hellwhere humans solve an evil puzzle box to summon Cenobites, extra-dimensional beings led by Pinhead who thrive on pain and pleasure.

While we patiently await the movie’s October 7 release on Hulu, let’s take a closer look at Jamie, the first woman ever to play Pinhead. Keep reading to learn all about her, below.

Where is Jamie from and when does she transition?

Jamie was born on January 15, 1978 in San Diego. She started transitioning as a woman in 2003 and took on the role of a transgender character on Netflix’ Sense8 in 2014. “Playing a transgender character on a show run by Lana Wachowski, I knew I would be protected and represented in a way trans people have never been shown on TV before,” Jamie said at the Television Critics Association summer press tour in 2015, every The Wrap.

She started out as a makeup artist

Before turning to acting, Jamie started her career as a makeup artist. In 2010, she played a makeup artist in the reality show makeup TRANSform mebroadcast on VH1 Television, spurred her to start pursuing her new acting dream.

Jamie appeared naked in Sense8

Jamie is best known for his role as Nomi Marks in the Netflix original series Sense8, where she plays a transgender computer hacker living in San Francisco. In the second season of the sci-fi TV series, Jamie wears a birthday suit with an equally nude suit Freema countrywho plays her girlfriend Amanita.

She stayed as Pinhead while on set

“I’m not Method, but I’ve had personality from the moment I left the make-up trailer,” explains Jamie. EW. “Walking on the set is funny. I’m so used to walking on set and everyone saying, ‘Hi!’ and I said, ‘Hello!’ About this, now, I walk on set, and I’m really quiet, and I’m like, ‘You don’t f — the king talks to me. ‘”

She also said he felt the need to get into the character during filming because playing Pinhead was “a heavy place to go.” She added, “So to go that far, you can’t go back when they’re resetting the shot and take a sip of the Schweppes Bitter Lemon and come back. I just have to be there.”

The Hellraiser The director said Jamie was “scary as hell” during her audition

Staying in character may have helped Jamie land the role, as she certainly impressed the film’s director during her audition. “She’s scary!” David Bruckner told EW. “Honestly, it was the scariest read I’ve seen in a mile. Other than that, Doug’s performance is so iconic, incredible, and nuanced in all its own ways, we know we couldn’t take it apart. We needed another voice, and we didn’t know what that was.”

He went on to say the casting department was looking at many prospects to play Pinhead, but they kept coming back to Jamie because of her unique personality in the character. “From the very beginning, Jamie had this sensuality; she is expressing her wish [character] in a way where she’s revealing herself more, and has intrigue and curiosity, and on the surface she’s not trying to intimidate to the point of being this kind of quiet evil presence. Like, she’s sexy, I’m attracted to her, she’s beautiful, but at any moment she could throw a chain over my head. “
