Snooki Reveals Why She Keeps Her Relationship Off ‘Jersey Shore’: It’s What ‘Works For Us’
Nicole “Snooki” Polizzi is an open book on Jersey Shorebut when it comes to her relationship with Jionni LaValle, she prefers to keep things off-camera. “My husband, well, he hates being on TV,” Snooki said HollywoodLife EXCLUSIVE while promoting her partnership with Cheez-It for Reality TV Collector’s Cheddition boxes. “So I was like, okay, I get that. I respect that. I think the fact that that aspect of my life isn’t shown is nice. It’s privacy and only us. When I got home, I felt like it was just us and I didn’t feel like many people were watching. It’s just different from other people having their spouse, which is great, but I feel this is the right thing for us. “
Sometimes, the three children of Snooki – Lorenzoten, Giovanna8 and Angelo, 3 – will appear on camera, but also a very few and far away reason. “I don’t want my kids to get used to the camera,” admits Snooki. “I want them to grow up to have the most normal life I have ever had. So here and there, I’ll leave the kids up there, but not full time. “
However, after nearly 15 years on reality TV, she says her role as a mother is something she doesn’t feel the cameras have really captured. She explained: “It is very difficult to take my kids to the movies because they are so busy with sports and school and sometimes they don’t want to do it, so I won’t force them. “But I’m really trying to show my mother side more. Like, the chaos of my house! I’m not the only one going on vacation and drinking. I’m actually an active stay-at-home mom and I kill it. I want to show more of that. I only have to bring all three kids home at once and I want them to want to “work” with mom.”
Snooki teamed up with Cheez-It to honor 30 years of reality television. The brand created two collectible boxes – one with Snooki’s face and one with RuPaul’s – in honor of the partnership. A limited number of boxes are available for pre-sale at CheezItHQ.com before the official sale on Monday, September 19 at 12 p.m. ET. After that, a limited number of boxes will be available every day until September 23.
“They asked me and I was honored,” Snooki growled. “Cheez-It’s honestly my favorite snack as a mom, and for my kids, it’s their favorite snack. It’s always in the pantry. So when I showed them my face on the box, they said, ‘Mom, you’re cool.’ They want to take it and show it to all their friends. So I’m honored to stand on the box, but also just to celebrate the reality. Obviously reality is my life, so it’s great.”

What brought you back after leaving ‘Jersey Shore’ a few seasons ago? I feel it’s just my life. It’s my job and the people I work for are really my family. So when I decided to leave for a bit, at this point, I said, ‘I need this, I need a mental break. I want to be at home with the kids and not have to worry about anything. ‘ But then a couple of months went by and I knew people were filming and I was like, ‘Hm… did I do it right?’ So I had a good season and I said, ‘Okay, time to come back.’ All in all, it’s my life, everyone’s is my family, and it’s hard to stay away from.
Why do you think fans are still invested in ‘Jersey Shore’ after all these years? We are crazy. We are dysfunctional and you never know what will happen to us. And we never know! We go into these vacations thinking it’s going to be a nice, smooth stay and then we kill each other, and then we’re fine and drinking and partying. You never know what to expect with us. We feel like just hanging out together. It feels like a surprise… people still appreciate it. But I still feel like we are real in the sense that we speak out how we feel, we don’t sugarcoat anything. A lot of reality shows aren’t like that anymore. We still try and keep it as real as possible and I feel that the fans appreciate that.
Does your child fully understand what you do? Lorenzo and Giovanna watched all my YouTube videos and stuff like that. But I continued with the story that I was an actor until they turned 18 and understood that mom was crazy before you guys! I’ll stick with that story. But they definitely know I’m on TV and they hate when I leave. I like… lyou like your new Chromebook, don’t you? Mom has to work! I’m doing this for you! So they begin to understand. They get it. They know I’m not a normal mom.”
‘Jersey Shore’ has opened so many other doors for you like hosting and running your own business – do you see your life going more in that direction or will you stick with reality TV as long as it remains available? We all say we want to do Jersey Shore until we were in a nursing home in Dependency. We want to go on forever – or until we have fans and people want to follow us. We try to do the best we can and MTV allows us. I would love to do reality forever. But, I also don’t want to get into the camera and do behind-the-scenes things like shop, wine and my stuff. I want to keep it all forever, so we’ll see. Hopefully we can do the show for another ten years.
