Faith Hill Fights Back Tears While Honoring ‘Extraordinary’ Loretta Lynn At Tribute Special

Hill of Faith and Tim McGraw went on stage to talk about Loretta Lynn in CMT’s A Coal Miner’s Daughter: A Celebration of Loretta Lynn’s Life and Music on October 30. Faith and Tim both talk about how Loretta is known for writing songs about women and FOR women. “Loretta has been honest about the hardships and joys of being a wife and mother, a woman who loves life – falling in love, lying, cheating, having children, not having children… she sang about it all, ‘ said Faith. “She is fierce and proud of who she is, where she comes from and how she lives her life.

Tim calls Loretta a “forerunner” and thanks her for paving the way for his wife and daughters. Faith continued, “She didn’t create boundaries for women in country music, she chopped them up. She gave us this bold new space for us to find our own way to dream and soar into the music we make, the careers and the lives we have. She was always nice, kind and supportive to all of us. Every person in this room has a story they can share. She is very knowledgeable and funny.

At that point, Faith had to stop for a moment because she choked on tears. “I am honored to be in your presence, Loretta,” she concluded. “I am so grateful to have had so many memories with you. I’m proud to be a woman in country music, proud to be a mother, proud to have had the privilege of following you on the musical path you’ve ignited for all of us. Loretta passed away at the age of 90 on October 4.
